Understanding Success Rates

The issue of IVF success rates is perhaps the most controversial, emotional, and complex subject in the field of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). While success rates are one important indicator of the quality level of a particular IVF program, the numbers themselves can be often be either misleading or specifically manipulated to praise one program or disparage another. As with most things in life, there is much more to this story than meets the eye. By selection of certain demographic groups or by handling treatment cycles in a particular way, ART practitioners can influence their overall statistic, while not really providing any more actual value to their patients. For a thorough and thought provoking discussion of this subject, please read the Genetics & IVF Institute founder Dr. Joseph Schulman’s “What’s your Success Rate” parts 1 and 2.

There are many factors that influence the outcome of an IVF cycle and each individual couple may or may not fit into some arbitrary statistical category. Likewise there are many factors which contribute to a couple’s infertility and just as many different approaches must be available to treat it. Factors such as age, etiology of infertility, FSH level, ovarian reserve, semen parameters, and even general health are but a few of the metrics one must take into consideration when assessing an individual probability for success. Here at GIVF, we take an individualized approach to patient care. Our patients are not merely statistics on a bar graph, but important are unique individuals with very specific issues that we can help.

We proudly present our most recent IVF and Donor Egg IVF statistics on these pages, but suggest that you as a potential patient and consumer consider all the important factors and influences when choosing whom to trust with your infertility care. What is most important is the experience and expertise of the IVF team, the experiences of your fellow patients, the overall reputation of the program itself, and your own intuitive response to the physicians and clinical staff. GIVF has been responsible for tens of thousands of healthy pregnancies and births over our 26 year history practicing ART and we are committed to helping each person who seeks our assistance to achieve their dream of having a family. One of our physicians would be delighted to provide a consultation to assess your specific needs and to discuss this and other pertinent topics with you.
