Donor Egg IVF Refund Guarantee Options

The most important information about donor egg IVF treatment is its extraordinary effectiveness. While rarely an initial preference among couples with infertility, the use of donor egg IVF or donor egg ICSI is a superb second choice. Most importantly, it is one likely to readily succeed for most patients. In addition to Genetics & IVF Institute’s fee for service plan, financial options at Genetics & IVF Institute allow couples to utilize donor egg IVF services while selecting from one of several refund guarantee options that preserves their investment if they are unsuccessful.  Also, Genetics & IVF Institute is offering new inclusion criteria that will allow many patients, who otherwise would not qualify for inclusion in a donor egg IVF program, to participate through Genetics & IVF Institute.

Genetics & IVF Institute’s donor egg IVF program started treating couples in 1988, and is responsible for hundreds of successful births since that time. Our program prides itself on the large, diverse selection of high-quality donors immediately available to couples, as well as the exceptional standards of care our patients receive during their assisted reproductive treatments. Couples can search our on-line list of donors and discuss options with our coordinators as they make their important decisions.

This web page will focus on the programs recent success rates with fresh and frozen embryos, as well as the financial options that are available to our patients.

GENETICS & IVF INSTITUTE LAUNCHES THE ORIGINS DRUG BENEFIT PROGRAM
Available Through September 15th, 2005

The Genetics & IVF Institute (GIVF) understands that medication for infertility treatment is expensive, particularly for those patients with no insurance coverage. In an effort to help make in vitro fertilization more affordable for those patients whose insurance does not cover IVF, GIVF has created The Origins Drug Benefit Program to help pay the cost of prescription drugs.

Through this new program, GIVF will be able to provide free Gonadotropin drugs to most Donor Egg IVF, Pregnancy Guarantee Program and self-pay IVF patients who begin their cycle(s) by September 15th 2005. The per cycle savings for these drugs is approximately $900. By providing these drugs to our patients at no cost, the cost of prescription drugs for a typical IVF cycle will be reduced by approximately one-third. GIVF is pleased to offer this program to benefit both new and current patients.

SUCCESS RATES

Couples who select the donor egg IVF option often already have exhausted the IVF options available to them without success. Donor egg IVF allows a couple's chance of a successful pregnancy to leap up to the 50-60% range in just one cycle. Furthermore, with donor egg treatment, the age of the woman is virtually irrelevant to the success of the process

In an average sole match donor egg IVF cycle (one donor matched to one recipient) at Genetics & IVF Institute, 80% of couples produce enough embryos for cryopreservation (freezing), thus allowing for additional low-cost embryo transfer cycles without the need for a second full donor egg IVF cycle if the fresh transfer does not achieve an immediate pregnancy.

GIVF offers donor egg IVF patients whose insurance does not cover treatment a number of financial options as well as a wide choice of donors. Patients may pay per donor egg IVF cycle or they may qualify to participate in one of several partial or fully-refundable program options (Pregnancy Guarantee Programs). Unlike centers that exclude many patients from Pregnancy Guarantee Programs because of health or certain other situations, GIVF expanded Pregnancy Guarantee Program opportunities for patients by creating a unique "opportunity" program that allows couples with certain health conditions or situations to participate in Pregnancy Guarantee Program for an additional fee.

FROZEN EMBRYOS

Having a high quality frozen embryo program is critical to offering higher, cumulative probabilities of success. Our data on fresh and frozen embryo cycles in donor egg IVF is very encouraging for couples anxiously seeking to have a child. From the initial fresh transfer alone, over 50% of couples establish a pregnancy, an additional 30% of the remainder will conceive from the first frozen embryo transfer, and with repetitive efforts only a tiny fraction of patients will not succeed in getting the baby they desire.

The ability to offer a high-quality frozen embryo program distinguishes a program's success rate overall. Genetics & IVF Institute has one of the most comprehensive and successful storage programs available, storing embryos for couples from all of our IVF treatment programs for over 15 years.

Our success rates for pregnancies from frozen embryos set us apart from other donor egg IVF programs that do not offer embryo freezing or highly discourage it due to their marginal or poor outcomes. Some programs suggest that if the embryos do not grow to blastocyst after 5 days of culturing in the laboratory that the embryos are not of adequate quality to freeze.

Due to the excellent results that we achieved over several years by freezing embryos on day 2 or day 3 of culturing, we believe that freezing embryos before the blastocyst stage is a very viable alternative and, in some cases, a preferable alternative to blastocyst culture.

It is important to note that at Genetics & IVF Institute we freeze every embryo in an individual container rather than combining multiple embryos. This allows each couple the ability to decide exactly how many embryo(s) they want to thaw and transfer.

Couples come to appreciate that, if they are making a significant investment in time, effort and finances, they want to maximize their chance of success from just one egg donor cycle. We cannot guarantee that all our donors will produce enough embryos for two or more transfer cycles. Yet, in a sole match cycle the likelihood is very high that a couple will have enough embryos for at least one more additional transfer cycle of frozen embryos from just one Donor Egg IVF cycle.

At Genetics & IVF Institute a single frozen embryo transfer produces pregnancy in an additional 33% of patients who did not get pregnant from their first fresh embryo transfer.

OUR REFUND GUARANTEE PROGRAM OPTION

In addition to its normal fee for service options, Genetics & IVF Institute now offers several partial and fully-refundable refund options or Pregnancy Guarantee Programs, for donor egg IVF patients whose insurance does not cover donor egg IVF treatment. We have added a unique concept to the refund program called "expanded options", which allows couples with certain health conditions or situations which would otherwise exclude them from most other programs, to qualify for the donor egg IVF refund programs at Genetics & IVF Institute.

Other programs offer only a partial refund option, which does not refund the costs of the egg donor-associated cycle fees. However, Genetics & IVF Institute offers the additional option for a full refund of all treatment and egg donor costs if there is no baby born. We consider a baby born 24 weeks after embryo transfer (26 weeks gestation) to be viable and that the contract has been fulfilled.

For example, if the baby is not born alive because of a car accident or other pregnancy complication, the IVF treatment is not responsible. On the other hand, if the pregnancy miscarries before 24 weeks, then you can continue to try for another pregnancy at no additional cost. Couples who want to keep their financial investment secure if donor egg IVF treatment does not work for them may prefer this fully-refundable option.

The following is a partial explanation of the financial options offered by Genetics & IVF Institute for donor egg IVF. Please refer to the complete refund agreement for additional details or call us to speak directly to a financial counselor. Participation is subject to inclusion and exclusion criteria.

The total cost for the Pregnancy Guarantee Program includes three separate fees added together: (I) the basic treatment cycle fee that everyone pays; (II) the donor-associated cycle fee, of which there are two choices, and (III) premium pricing, if applicable. The cost of medications and anesthesia are excluded.

3. Premium pricing

For certain medical conditions, there is a per-cycle fee option that allows patients who otherwise would not qualify to take advantage of the refundable options above. This fee is fully-refundable, subject to terms and conditions of the agreement. Each patient is personally advised after consultation and careful evaluation if this premium pricing applies to them. Exclusions apply. Please call us for more information.

WHAT DOES THE "PREGNANCY GUARANTEE PROGRAM" COVER?

The basic treatment cycle fee covers up to 4 sole-match donor cycles or 6 split-match donor cycles, the cost of freezing excess embryos, and the costs of the frozen embryo transfer cycles. We expect that most sole-match cycles will have frozen embryos but that most split-match cycles will not have frozen embryos.

"Expanded option pricing" is a special feature of Genetics & IVF Institute's donor egg IVF refund options and can help many patients who have certain medical conditions which to a greater or less extent could reduce the likelihood of rapid success with donor egg IVF therapy. In this innovative financial alternative, based on the specific circumstances, we calculate an additional fee that allows patients who otherwise would not qualify to take advantage of the refundable options above. This fee is fully refundable, subject to terms and conditions of the agreement. Each patient is personally advised after consultation and careful evaluation if this pricing alternative may be considered by them. Exclusions apply.

Please schedule an initial consultation or call us for more information.
Some of the conditions or situations that may require using the special pricing option include, but are not limited to:

Male factors:
    • ICSI required
    • Severely abnormal sperm (specific parameters apply)
Female factors:
    • Age greater than 49
    • Excessive weight
    • Uterine fibroid (depending upon size and location)
    • Prior unsuccessful donor egg IVF treatment
    • History of miscarriage

SUMMARY

A couple can choose to be guaranteed a full-refund of all of their treatment and donor egg IVF cycle costs and take advantage of up to four, sole-match, fresh and all subsequent frozen embryo cycles or up to six, split-match cycles for a fully-refundable fee. If after completion of the program, the couple still has not given birth to a baby, they get all their money back and can use these funds to pursue other options.

We believe this FULL REFUND option is different from what any other program is currently offering. Please read the fine print since most of our competitor's refund programs do not refund the costs related to screening and reimbursing the donor.

Of course, if they prefer, couples at Genetics & IVF Institute can pay a nonrefundable, donor-egg cycle fee and be guaranteed a partial refund for the treatment fees, or simply utilize entirely normal fee for service per cycle, non-refundable payments. Below is a comparison of the option costs, from a patient's perspective.
