Its long been known that women who are over 40 have significantly more fertility problems than younger women. It's been assumed that a man's age is much less a factor in the fertility equation. This seems to make sense, as a women's eggs are as old as she is, whereas a man's sperm cells are constantly replenished. New
research from French scientists shows that this common belief might not be accurate. The study looked at success and miscarriage rates from 21,000 male samples from fertility clinics. It was found that as men reach the age of 40, they have a much higher chance of their partner having a miscarriage, when compared with younger men. Specifically, this research found that men over 40 had a significantly higher chance of causing a miscarriage (35% vs 10-15%) than men younger than 30. Researchers aren't really sure what the reason for this is, but the message is pretty clear to women and now men: its best not to wait too long to start a family.
